Jonathan D. Tamkin

Born and raised in Boston, Jonathan Tamkin received his B.A. in political science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and received his juris doctor, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Jon is admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of New Hampshire, the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts and United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit. During law school, Jon worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, Committee on The Judiciary, as a Research Analyst.

Jon was a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Appeals Court and Associate Corporate Counsel in the legal department of National Amusements, Inc., a motion picture and entertainment company headquartered in Massachusetts which is the parent company of Viacom, Inc. At National Amusements, his experiences included all phases of commercial real estate development, construction, zoning, corporate law, securities regulation and business transactions. Jon later worked in real estate development and management and then formed a law firm with several former legal associates at National Amusements where he focused his practice in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, municipal law and zoning, real estate development, construction, business and corporate law .

Jon Tamkin is involved in a wide variety of political, charitable and community activities. He accepts referrals from the Massachusetts Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Massachusetts Bar Association's Fee Arbitration Board. Since the 1980's, Jon has been actively involved with the Variety Club of New England, the Massachusetts Chapter of the entertainment industries' international children's charity, serving at various times as the Chairman of its Board of Directors and as its President, Vice President and General Counsel. He has been a member of the Jimmy Fund Advisory Counsel, was a Founding Member of the Coolidge Corner Theater Foundation, Inc. and served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors and as a Vice President of Brookline Access Television in Brookline, Massachusetts.

A resident of the Town of Needham, Jon is a member of the Town of Needham’s Zoning Board of Appeals and also Chairman of the Town of Needham's Cable Television Advisory Committee where he has directed the Town of Needham's negotiation and/or execution of cable television licenses with Comcast (then AT&T) and RCN and other providers, as well as the management of compliance issues under those agreements. Jon served for nine years as the President of the not for profit Needham Community Television Development Corporation which operates the Needham Channel and continues to serve as member of the organization's Board of Directors. Jon served for ten years as an elected Town Meeting Member in Needham and is involved in coaching his four children in youth soccer and baseball.

Jon manages Tamkin & Hochberg's Real Estate, Finance, Corporate and Media and Entertainment Law practices.

Andrew S. Hochberg

Andrew Hochberg, a partner in the Newton, Massachusetts law firm of Tamkin & Hochberg, LLP, is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Western New England College School of Law, where he earned his juris doctor, cum laude, served on the Law Review and received the Abraham Kamberg Award for Excellence in Commercial Law as well as the American Jurisprudence Award for Bankruptcy Law. Andy also graduated from the New York University School of Law, where he received an LL.M. in Taxation. He has been admitted to the bar in both Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Andy began his legal career at the firm of Siegel, O’Connor, Schiff, Zangari & Kainen, P.C. in Hartford, Connecticut, where his areas of practice included federal income tax, estate and gift tax planning; taxation of partnership, corporations and non-profit corporations; corporate planning; residential and commercial real estate; and private equity placements and debt financings. Andy then served as Counsel to Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company where he advised the Corporation with respect to the taxation of its investment, corporate and real estate activities, as well as negotiating with federal and state taxing authorities. Following his in-house experience, Andy went into private practice to focus his attention on corporate and individual tax planning, estate planning and administration, and corporate and commercial law.

Andy has served as an Instructor for the Programs for Financial Planners at both Boston University and Merrimack College, has lectured for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and frequently presents estate planning matters to other attorneys, accountants and financial planners. Andy has been appointed, for three consecutive one-year terms, to the Massachusetts Bar Association Taxation Council. He is a past President of the Boston Alumni Club of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Robert P. Joyce, Jr.

Bob Joyce is a graduate of Boston College High School, Boston College, and received his juris doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law. Bob was admitted to the Massachusetts and Maine bars in 1995, the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts in 1996 and U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit in 1998.

Bob joined Tamkin & Hochberg in February, 1999 having began his legal career as an associate with the Law Offices of Gabriel Dumont in Boston where his areas of practice included labor and employment law, and civil litigation. Bob practices in the areas of civil litigation, employment, real estate and corporate law.

A resident of the City of Newton, Bob is active in coaching his four children in youth hockey, baseball and soccer. Bob is the President of Newton Youth Hockey, is a member of the organization’s Board of Directors and formerly served as the Director of Learn to Skate Program from 2002-2004. In addition, Bob serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Newton West Little League.

Alvin C. Tamkin Of Counsel

Alvin Tamkin has a long and storied history with Massachusetts law and politics. A graduate of Boston University and Boston University Law School, where he served as an editor of the Law School’s Law Review, Alvin Tamkin served as First Justice of the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Hingham Division for three decades and was previously elected to three terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Governor's Council.
